SUNDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2009 - CAPE CLASSIC CAR SHOW
Last Year we supported Hout Bay Rotary Car Show in Hout Bay and it was a a moderately good show; it could have been a whole lot better specially if we had supported it to the hilt. We have, since the days of the Tygerberg Wheels Show days, been eager to hold our own show again but with the plethora a shows, there was no way of getting a good result. Thus was born an accord with the guys from Rotary in Hout Bay. They need a show every year to fund their charities. We need a show every year to fund the Clubhouse. And so the idea was developed into the following:

Instead of both entities doing a mediocre show every year, each entity would host its own show every second year and support the other when it was not its turn. In other words, this year we, CMMCS, will hold a massive show on the Parow Northerns Facilty and next year the Hout Bay Rotary will hold their show at the Kronendal School in Hout Bay..This year the Southern Suburbs Clubs will support the Northern Suburbs Clubs at Parow and next year the Northern Suburbs Clubs will support the Southern Suburbs Clubs in Hout Bay. Rotary will support us by handling the gate and we will share the gate with them so that we both get the funding we need to operate, and few charities will benefit correctly (managed by Rotary who obviously know what they are doing on that front - we admit that we know very little about charities). Next year, we will support their event and once again share the gate, charities will get their cut and so will we. Everybody happy and instead of trying to have two weak shows, we have one really big one each and every year. It fits like a glove............

THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE BIG................. We already have massive support from all corners of the Cape and registration has started as of today 12/6/09. The ultimate aim is to display some 1000 vehicles. Wishful thinking? If you get a chance to talk to Peanuts Fourie and Ian Little, do so. I think you will be surprised at what these two gentlemen have achieved to date.

There is a registration fee of R10. Why, why, why you ask. Because we want you to commit. Not only will you get your R10-00's worth in goodies, we will give your R10 back to your Club if you pitch up on the day. How is that for a good deal. The Clubs are also being encouraged to set up their stands and compete for the best stand. We are searching for the trophies that we used to hand out for that in the Cape Classic Safari era as some of those were fantastic trophies. Please let us know if you can help out there. A few of the Clubs are going to use the day as their annual Concours day - that alone should be worth seeing.

So far we have CAR and/or WIEL on board as main sponsors. There are others in the pipeline. If your company would like to share in the limelight or set up a stall at the event, please contact the organiser Peanuts Fouche at  foucheng@iafrica.com or any other matter our chairman Stephen Wearne at    chairman@classics.co.za

SATURDAY 15 NOVEMBER 2008 - KILLARNEY NATIONAL RACE DAY
We have received a request from Brian Smith, Chairman of WPMC, for 35 open topped vehicles to parade the race car drivers during the lunch break.

Vehicle owners will obviously receive free passes to Killarney on the day. Kindly communicate with those of your club members who have such appropriate vehicle and revert to me ASAP with details of the vehicle and owner/driver so that I may arrange for the tickets and ensure that we have sufficient vehicles on the day. Please remember it is first come first served.

As you are no doubt aware, we have a very favourable relationship with Killarney and a very good clubhouse facility there, for which we need to reciprocate whenever possible. At the previous occasion, the only response was from the Alfa Club and the Triumph club. I was then able to use short notice as an excuse to save embarrassment, however I trust we will have good representation from all the clubs with appropriate vehicles this time.

SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2008 - CAR CLASSICS IN THE (HOUT) BAY

Please take note of the correspondence below (and distribute appropriately / in appropriate format amongst your club members) regarding the Classics in the Bay event in November, which is a CMMCS supported event, which promises to bring revenue to the CMMCS (which will again directly benefit your club) in the event of it being a success, which it is sure to be, given our support.

The general plan at this stage is to depart from various convenient venues, to arrive at the Hout Bay venue from about 11h30. The organisers have promised to supply braai fires for those of us who would prefer to Bring&Braai rather than making use of the caterers on site. The plan is to have an informal interclub concourse with prizes for the winners to make things a bit more interesting. Further they want the marques parked together, preferably with good club displays, with the idea of each participant supplying interesting details regarding his/her vehicle before the time, so as to parade the vehicles at a later stage, around the perimeter, with a MC giving a talk to the gathered spectators. Please note that the organisers have taken notice of  the inconvenience to vehicle owners who have to sit around from early morning till late afternoon at most shows while their cars are on display – hence the late arrival time.

To make this work, we need to be able to have details from each club to be able to properly plan the layout of the field, appropriately according to club attendance. The timing of the parade needs to be carefully planned.

It is therefore imperative that all chairmen begin sourcing the best available club vehicles for this show, to make it a show piece for the marque which lies closest to your heart. It would also be great if you could let me have preliminary expected numbers for the event ASAP, as I would prefer not to do a thumb-suck and then just assign so many spaces per club as we would anticipate to be appropriate.

FROM : John Camplin, Hout Bay Rotary Club

Hout Bay Rotary Club is currently organizing the fourth Car Classics In Hout Bay in conjunction with your club.

It will be held in the grounds of Kronendal School, Hout Bay, on Sunday, November 23, 2008.

As well as your participation with the cars, you are also invited to set up your own displays, which could take the form of your own outlet/tent in the grounds and your own banners and flags.

Car Classics In Hout Bay began as a Rotary project in 2003 and has become one of the most significant events of the year in Hout Bay. By 2006 almost 200 classic cars were on display and this year we anticipate playing host to +/- 300 in conjunction with your classic car clubs throughout Southern Africa. (Last year’s event was, unfortunately, cancelled on the day due to atrocious weather conditions.)

As well as the cars themselves we are also organising a wide-ranging variety of attractions to create a carnival atmosphere and draw families. Musicians, clowns, face painting, a jumping castle, food stalls, visiting cheetahs and a beer tent will all be on the programme. There will be a number of raffles throughout the day offering a variety of prizes like tickets to local attractions, meals at restaurants etc.

Marketing, promotions and publicity strategies are all in place and will be launched at an appropriate time. These will include posters including your logo on lamp posts throughout the Cape Town area, as well as pamphlets and leaflets in strategic locations like schools, libraries, shops and – possibly – at traffic lights. We anticipate that major sponsorships will soon be in place so that sponsors will gain maximum exposure before the event as well as during the day of the show.

Historically, Car Classics In The Bay has attracted sizeable attendance, especially from the Hout Bay area but also from throughout the Cape peninsula. We anticipate welcoming several thousand spectators on November 23, as well as the several hundred of your members who will be participating in their classic cars.

I am attaching a brief list of some of Hout Bay Rotary’s recent achievements and projects so that you can see that the funds we raise are directed towards projects of merit in the local area.
